Sue Dunkley has been a supporter of Action for Children for many years and administered the collection boxes on behalf of Ilkeston Methodist Church for approximately 10 years and was very pleased when the Stewards recently gave permission for her to continue her work through West Hallam Methodist Church. Action for Children, was formally known as National Children’s Home (NCH).  A little history –  Revd Dr Stephenson was a Methodist minister from the North East of England who was passionate about social justice. and when he moved to London in 1896, he challenged the Methodist Church to take action to help children living on the streets.  His work led to the creation of the National Children’s Home.  A lot has changed since 1896 but the charity’s ambition, to give children safe and happy childhoods, shines just as bright.  The collection boxes are little lanterns which are great for small change.  The charity has built more and more services to help vulnerable children across the UK and has meeting places in Derby, Nottingham and Chesterfield.

If anyone would like to join Sue in supporting its work within the local community, please let her know and a little lantern will soon be sitting on your shelf 🙂  She usually collects them back every quarter or whenever they are full and need emptying.

Many thanks , Sue
